The aim of this study is to understand the experiences of Clinical Officers in task shifting for caesarean section in Malawi. College of Medicine has received financial support amounting to 93, 142 USD to implement this study over a period of 13 months running from August 2015 to September 2016. This study will highlight facilitators and barriers on how clinical officers are providing c-section in Malawi. It is expected that findings from this study will influence the policy makers, regulatory bodies, teaching institutions and professional associations to come up with guidance notes on provision of c-section services by clinical officers in Malawi. Within the region our study findings will also provide a teaching template to other countries that have just started recognizing clinical officers as surgeons when performing ceasarean sections. The study will provide guidance notes on the perceived welfare of clinical officers involved in maternal and child health care and also showcase the Malawi model of clinical officer programme and how they are integrated into the health care system.
